Michael Gerard Bauer was born on August 10, 1955, in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, in northeastern Australia. He studied literature, economics, and education at the university there. In addition to his work as a teacher, he pursued his dream of publishing his own book, which he achieved in 2004 with „Running Man.“ His debut was followed by the well-known young adult novels featuring the protagonist Ismael.
The Australian author immediately received numerous critics‘ awards for „Running Man.“ Among other accolades, the novel was named „Book of the Year“ by the Children’s Book Council of Australia in 2005 and nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize in 2008.
Since 2000, Michael Gerard Bauer has worked full-time as a writer; he gave up his teaching career. He lives with his family in Ashgrove, a suburb of Brisbane and the setting of „Running Man.“
